The 113th Sacred Feast of St. Gregorios

The 113th Sacred Feast of St. Gregorios

01st to 08th November 2015

Chief Celebrant

His Grace Joshua Mar Nicodimos

(Metropolitan of Nilackal Diocese)

GregorieschemeburGeevarghese Mar Gregorios, fondly called Parumala Kochuthirumeni was a man of God, who lived not according to the way of the flesh but according to the law of God. Those who met him were deeply touched and impressed by his unassuming life and purity of conscience. On the 2nd November 1902; the spirit of the holy man was committed into the hands of the Heavenly Father. In 1947, The Holy Episcopal Synod canonized and proclaimed him a Saint of the Malankara Orthodox Church. His intercession has been fruitful to thousands of people who sought it, during his life and even after his death. His tomb at Parumala is the refuge for thousands of people from different cultures, languages and religions, who are in distress and seek solace and comfort. Let us glorify God for the sacred life of Mar Gregorios and imitate the spiritual pursuit.

Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church, Chembur

A Unique Place of Sacred Presence and Intercession of Parumala Thirumeni

For the first time in the history of the Orthodox Community in Mumbai, the Blessed Feast of St. Gregorios was celebrated at Chembur on the 02nd November 1973. It was a golden opportunity for thousands of devotees and faithful in Mumbai to participate in the Feast of the Saint and be blessed.  Thenceforth Chembur Church is popularly known as ‘Parumala of Bombay’. Many people from various Christian denominations and even people of other faith have their own experiences at this place, receiving God’s grace and thereby happiness and healing of body and mind, through the prayers of Parumala Thirumeni.

Gregorian Pilgrim Centre of Bombay Diocese

As the Church was consecrated, a meditation room was set apart later in the year 1996 where the Holy Relics of Parumala Thirumeni is venerably enshrined. Considering the status as the First Church in Mumbai, dedicated to the Sacred Memory of St. Gregorios of Parumala and its popularity and recognition by thousands of faithful as a place blessed with the special spiritual presence and intercession of the Saint, His Holiness Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Paulose II the Catholicos of the East and  Malankara Metropolitan elevated and declared Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church Chembur to be the ‘Gregorian Pilgrim Centre’ of Bombay, on 10th November 2013.

People from far and near irrespective of faith, caste and culture visit and offer their prayers and thanksgiving for the blessings they have received by the intercession of the Saint. The Chapel now provides facility to spend quality time in personal prayer and meditation invoking the intercession of Parumala Thirumeni in a tranquil surrounding.

  • Holy Qurbana and special prayers are offered in the Chapel every Friday at 7 PM.
  • Fasting Prayer and Meditation – Every 2nd & 4th Fridays from 9 AM to 11 AM.
  • Special prayers are offered on request by devotees in the intercession of Parumala Thirumeni and in the Holy Qurbana.

We invite and welcome one and all to the sacred presence of Parumala Thirumeni at Gregorian Pilgrim Centre and be blessed through his most valued intercession.

May the prayers of St. Gregorios be a blessing to each one of us to lead a righteous life!
