H.G.Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the Diocesan Metropolitan, is celebrating his 67th birthday on 7th October.
H.G.Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the Diocesan Metropolitan celebrating his 67th birthday 0n 7th October, today. At present His Grace is the holding the Presidentship of MGOCSM, Gregorian Community and Vice Presidentship of St Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur.
Mar Coorilos was born on 7 October 1949 at Kollad, near Kottayam, to Mr PK Kurian and Mrs Mary Kurian of the Puliyeril family. After his schooling, young George had his pre-degree studies at CMS College Kottayam. He took his bachelors in arts from the Calicut University and MA from Sree Venkateshwara University. He did his BD from Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam, and got post-graduate diploma in Pastoral Theology from Heythrop College London University and post-graduate diploma in Theology and Mission from Urban Theology Unit, Shefield, UK.
He was ordained a sub-deacon in 1970 and a deacon in 1974 by Catholicos HH Baselios Mathews I. Dn George became a priest in 1975 and served as Vicar, St Gregorios Church, London. He is known for his works among students and thus was serving the MGOCSM as general secretary for almost a decade. This paved way for Fr George to visit many foreign countries.He was elected to the Episcopal rank in 1989 and thus became a monk in 1990 and was subsequently ordained in 1991. Soon, he was appointed as the Assistant Metropolitan, Mumbai Dioceses, and worked steadfast with late Dr Philipose Mar Theophilus for the progress of the Mumbai Diocese.His Grace has held many positions in the church and other Christian societies. He had attended many international conferences and interacted with many communities such as NCCI, CASA, WCC, and CMAI.
Gregorian Community, The dream of His Grace Mar Coorilos Metropolitan is taking shape with the establishment of the Gregorian Community-at Roha, about 120 kms from Mumbai. The vision is to create a caring, sharing, and loving community of individuals rooted in the love of God and having a zest for serving its neighbors. The motto of the community is worship, study and service. It is indeed a religious community to work under the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, the Patron being the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, the Supreme Head of the Orthodox Syrian Church in India.The community is named after St. Gregorios of Parumala. About 77 acres if land has already been purchase at Roha and project work and infrastructure are under progress. A Community Chapel is constructed on the Gregorian Hill and temporary structures are made to accommodate people. An Old Age Home, A Primary School and Special School for the Mentally Challenged has been started.The Gregorian Community stands to promote value system by treating everyone made in the image of God helping and serving to build up the community and rejuvenating the talents and strengths in each individual It nurtures facilities for families to come together, serve each other irrespective of age, sex, caste, or creed. The Community wants to usher in spiritual awakening among professionals and also to foster inter religious dialogue thereby further tolerance and communal harmony.

There were 300 films from Fifty Countries nominated for the festival and finally short listed to 40 films, with a panel of Ten Judges, during the ‘three days Film Festival held , ’29th Sept to 1st Oct.,2016.

Dr. Robin Mathew is from NE American Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church. He is very active among our Sunday school and youth of Indian Orthodox Church New Jersey.
He is an Indian Academic studied B.Sc. In Kerala ( university 1st rank) M.Sc in Visakhapatnam, Research in BARC & AIIMS Delhi… Further Ph. D in California and US.. our young researchers can be motivated and a great example that Fear of God is the beginning of knowledge. His Holiness Abune Mathias I, Sixth Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Archbishop of Axum and Ichege of the See of Saint Taklehaimanot, will be offering a fraternal visit to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church during the second week of November 2016. His Holiness will reach Kerala on 19th November,His Holiness will be the chief guest of the Bicentennial Memorial of Sabha Jyothis Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionysius I, which will be held at Kunnamkulam, Kerala on 20th November, 2016. On 23rd November, His Holiness will participate in the Consecration and Inauguration of St Gregorios International Cancer Institute at Parumala.
The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church belong to the family of Oriental Orthodox Churches which enjoy full communion with each other. His Holiness Patriarch Mathias and His Holiness Catholicos Paulose II, have strived to strengthen the relationship between the two sister Churches, as well as the greater Oriental Orthodox Church.
In March 2013, His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East participated in the Enthronement of His Holiness Patriarch Abune Mathias I at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa. A delegation led by His Holiness Baselius Marthoma Paulos II attended the Enthronement service of HH Abune Mathias in Ethiopia.. The reception accorded to His Holiness in Ethiopia in March 2013 was colourful. His Holiness got the rare distinction of being the only Head of a Church who attended the Enthronement service of His Holiness Abune Mathias I. The representatives from various Churches celebrated their short services immediately after the enthronement was over.
The last time a ruling Patriarch of the Ethiopian Church offered a fraternal visit to the Malankara Church was in December 2008 by the then Ethiopian Patriarch, His Holiness Abune Paulos of Blessed Memory.Abune Paulose, the late Patriarch of the Ethiopian Church had visited Malankara Church and keen to maintain a good rapport with the Church till his demise. He could galvanize the cooperation between these two Churches started by His Grace Dr. Paulos Mar Gregorios and Rev. Fr. Dr. V. C. Samuel. The newly enthroned Patriarch His Holiness Mathias emphasized the need to strengthen the ties between these two Churches when the Catholicos and other delegates visited him and handed over the gifts of the Church, Nearly 8 professors of theology from the Malankara have served the seminaries of the Ethiopian Church

പരിശുദ്ധ അൽവാറീസ് മാർ യൂലിയോസ്, ഭാഗ്യ സ്മരണാർഹനായ ഡോ ഫിലിപ്പോസ് മാർ തെയോഫിലോസ് എന്നീ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഓർമ്മ പെരുന്നാളിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകാനെത്തിയതായിരുന്നു പരിശുദ്ധ പിതാവ്. സെപ്റ്റംബർ 30 -ആം തീയതി വൈകുന്നേരം മുംബൈ വാശി അരമനയിൽ എത്തിയ പരിശുദ്ധ കാതോലിക്കാബാവയെ ആവേഷ്വജ്വലമായി ബോംബെ ഭദ്രാസന വൈദീകരും വിശ്വാസികളും ചേർന്ന് സ്വീകരിച്ചു. ഒക്ടോബർ 1 ന് രാവിലെ പരിശുദ്ധ ബാവ വിശുദ്ധ കുർബാന അർപ്പിച്ചു. പരിശുദ്ധ അൽവാറീസ് മാർ യൂലിയോസ് , ഡോ ഫിലിപ്പോസ് മാർ തെയോഫിലോസ് എന്നീ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ജീവിതം ശ്രദ്ധാപൂർവം പഠിക്കുമ്പോൾ വ്യത്യസ്ത കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിൽ ജീവിച്ചു സഭയെ നയിച്ച ഈ പിതാക്കന്മാരിൽ ഒരുപാട് സമാനതകൾ കാണുവാൻ സാധിക്കും എന്ന് പരിശുദ്ധ പിതാവ് പറഞ്ഞു. മലങ്കര സഭയുടെ സഹദാമാരാണ് ഈ പിതാക്കന്മാരെന്നും പരിശുദ്ധ പിതാവ് കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു. പെരുനാൾ ചടങ്ങുകൾക്ക് ബോംബെ ഭദ്രാസന മെത്രാപോലീത്ത അഭിവന്ദ്യ ഗീവർഗീസ് മാർ കൂറിലോസ് സഹ കാർമീകത്വം വഹിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് ഭക്തി സാന്ദ്രമായ റാസ നടന്നു.
പെരുനാൾ ശ്രുശൂഷകളെ തുടർന്ന് നടന്ന പൊതു സമ്മേളനത്തിൻ ബോംബെ ഭദ്രാസന മെത്രാപോലീത്ത അഭിവന്ദ്യ ഗീവർഗീസ് മാർ കൂറിലോസ്അദ്ധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ചു. ഈ സമ്മേളനത്തിൽ പരുമല കാൻസർ സെന്റററിനുള്ള സാഹയ ധനം വിവിധ ഇടവകളിൽ നിന്നും ഉള്ള വികാരിമാരും ട്രസ്റ്റി ന്മാരും ചേർന്ന് പരിശുദ്ധ ബാവയ്ക്ക് നേരിട്ട് നൽകി. മലങ്കര സഭയുടെ മറ്റൊരു ഭദ്രാസനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ലഭിക്കാത്ത ശക്താമായാ ഈ പിന്തുണയ്ക്ക് എന്നാളും താൻ ബോംബെ ഭദ്രാസനത്തോടും ജനങ്ങളോടും കടപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് പരിശുദ്ധ ബാവ പറഞ്ഞു. സംഭാവനകളും ബോണ്ടുകളുമായി നാലര കോടി രൂപായാണ് ഭദ്രാസനത്തിൽ നിന്നും നൽകിയത്. ഇതിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയ വൈദീകരെയും അൽമായ നേതാക്കന്മാരെയും പരിശുദ്ധ ബാവ അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു.
തുടർന്ന് വിവിധ ഇടവകളിൽ നിന്നും സമാഹരിച്ച കാതോലിക്കാ ദിന നിധി പരിശുദ്ധ ബാവയ്ക്ക് നൽകി. ടാർജറ്റിൽ കവിഞ്ഞ തുകയാണ് ഇത്തവണയും ബോംബെ ഭദ്രാസനം നൽകിയത്. മുംബൈ ചുവന്ന തെരുവിൽ സാമൂഹിക പ്രവർത്തനം നടത്തുന്ന ആൻസൺ തോമസ് , കോപ്റ്റിക് ഓർത്തഡോൿസ് സഭയിൽ നിന്നും മുംബയിൽ എത്തി സാമൂഹിക പ്രവർത്തനം നടത്തുന്ന മിസ് ഷെറി എന്നിവരെ പരിശുദ്ധ ബാവ ആദരിച്ചു.
കോർ എപ്പിസ്ക്കോപ്പാമാർ, വൈദീകർ, വിശ്വാസികൾ എന്നിവരുടെ നല്ലൊരു പങ്കു ഈവർഷത്തെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ഓർമ്മ പെരുന്നാളിൽ സംബന്ധിച്ചു. സ്നേഹ സദ്യയോട് കൂടി പെരുനാൾ ചടങ്ങുകൾ അവസാനിച്ചു.
His Holiness Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Paulos II, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan will reach Mumbai today Evening for leading the Memorial Feasts of St Alvares Mar Julius and LL Dr.Philipose Mar Theophilus Metropolitan. H.G Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, along with Priests and the Faithful of Diocese of Bombay will receive His Holiness at the gate of Vashi Aramana at 8.P.M. Tomorrow morning His Holiness will celebrate Holy Qurbana on the occasion of Memorial Feasts of Holy Fathers. Thereafter there will a Public Meeting. In this Meeting His Holiness will receive the Catholicate Day Collections and the Fund for St Gregorios Cancer centre from the Parishes of Diocese of Bombay. Yesterday Evening His Holiness reached Ahemedbad for the Annual Conference of Orthodox Christian Youth Movement.

93rd Memorial feast of St Alvares Mar Julius and 19th memorial feast of LL.Dr.Philipos Mar Theophilos will be celebrated at Vashi Aramama, under the leadership His Holiness Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Paulos II, Catholicos of East and H.G.Geevarghese Mar Coorilos on September 30th Friday and October 1st Saturday.
Born on 29th April 1836 in the region of Goa, currently a State of Indian Republic, H.G. Alvares Mar Julius was ordained as a Priest of Catholic Order in 1869. As a priest and a staunch freedom fighter of Goa, the eminent personality, Fr. Alvares, served in his land for spiritual and social upliftment of his countrymen for a span of eighteen years during 1869-1887. His philanthropy, patriotism and yearning for freedom from foreign Portuguese yoke, journalistic acumen and his aristocratic birth had won a good number of followers for him in Goa and South Canara. Due to the political and religious constraints of that time in his own region, Fr. Alvares left Goa in 1887, geographically rerouted his mission area and started to concentrate his social and spiritual activities among his folks in Brahmawar. [Brahmawar is a place situated in South Canara near Udippi, which is currently in the Karnataka State of India]
After a while of landing to Malankara in 1887, Parumala Mar Gregorios Metropolitan of Malankara Orthodox Church ordained Fr. Alvares to the monastic order of Ramban. On 29 July 1889, Ramban Alvares was consecrated as a Metropolitan with title Alvares Mar Julius at the Old Seminary, Kottayam by Malankara Metropolitan Pulikkottil Mar Joseph Dionysius II and St. Geevarghese Mar Gregorios [Parumala Thirumeni, the first canonized Saint of Malankara]. The newly consecrated Metropolitan Mar Julius was appointed as the Archbishop of India and Ceylon for the diocesan area of outside Kerala of the Malankara Orthodox Church.
Dr. Philipose Mar Theophilos Metropolitan was born on 9 May 1911 as the sixth son of Korah and Mariamma of Kallupurakkal, Puthanangadi, Kottayam. He took his B.A degree from Cochin Maharaja’s College. He studied M.A in St.Augustine of Canterbury in England, T.H.M in Cardiff University, UK, and D.D from Harward University in Chicago, USA. He became as a deacon in 1929, received from Vattasseril mar Dionysius Metropolitan and anointed as a priest in 1944 by His Holiness Baselios Geevarghese II, the Catholicos of the East.On 24 August 1966, at Kolencherry His Holiness Baselios Ougen Catholicose consecrated Philipose Mar Theophilos as Metropolitan. Then he was appointed as the head of the Ankamali Diocese. Many new schools, orphanages, hospitals etc. were started by him. He laid stones for hospitals at Kothamangalam, Chalad, and Pothanicad. Self employment projects for poor and School for blind at Alwaye were some of his ambitious projects in Ankamali.On 1979 February 1 he took over the charge of Mumbai Diocese too. He initially established his headquarters near St. Gregorios Church, Chembur in Mumbai before moving out in the year 1988 to the present headquarters at the Orthodox Church Centre, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. This Dicocese spread over the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, a tail portain of Karnataka, Bahrain, Qatar and Suadi Arabia. At the same year on October 5 he translated the Holy Relics of Blessed Alvares mar Julius Metropolitan from the secluded corner of St. Inez Cemetery to the St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Ribander in Goa. Philipose Mar Theophilos was known as the Ambassador of the Malankara Orthodox Church during his life time. He served as the Principal of the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam (Old Seminary). And he was the architect of the revamped Seminary. The Metropolitan ministered among university students as the President of the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Students Movement (MGOCSM).Mar Theophilos was one of the associated with the founding of the World Christian Council (WCC). He worked as Secretary of Faith and Order division and central committee member of the WCC. He was the first person from the rank and file of WCC to visit eastern orthodox churches, which bore fruit when those churches took WCC’s membership. Theophilos was highly honored by Eastern Orthodox churches. He was the only one special invitee to attend the selection of His Holiness Peeman Patriarch of Russian Orthodox Church. He was given a grand honor when he was invited to attend the Republic day parade of Romania as chief guest along with Romanian President and Romanian Patriarch. Philipose mar Theophilos passed away on 28 September 1997 and was laid to rest in Thrikunnath Seminary, Aluva in Kerala
